Mild steel, also known as low carbon steel, utilizes only a minute amount of carbon. The percentage of carbon may vary from 0.05% to 0.25% by weight. Moreover, it is not alloy steel and hence does not encompass a huge amount of other elements like chromium, molybdenum, etc.

The technique employed in the manufacturing of mild steel is similar to that of other carbon steels. Iron and coal are melted together in a blast furnace and then hardened into a rectangular shape.

As the carbon content in mild steel is less, the properties also vary as compared to other carbon steels.
